SPB-Linux 1.0.1: description of the addons Installation: copy the addons which you want to use onto the bootdisk (if there is enough space left) or onto a second disk (during the boot process you will be prompted to insert the second disk; the file syslinux.cfg on the bootdisk must contain: addons:changefloppy=yes) Disclaimer: The SPB-Linux "distribution" has to fit on one or two floppy disks. Thus many programs (and libraries) are outdated (small!) versions without documentation (if bugs appear, please do NOT ask the authors of the programs because it is likely that these bugs will not appear with a current (big) Linux distribution). - With questions concerning SPB-Linux please feel free to mail to osth@freesurf.ch (fastchat and fd_size are small applications especially written for SPB-Linux). - To obtain sourcecode and documentation of the programs included in SPB-Linux please refer to any current standard Linux distribution (like RedHat or SuSE). ppp_en.bz2: Connection of 2 PCs using a nullmodem cable (with ppp-protocol). (console alt+F3: first serial device, alt+F4: second serial device, error-messages on alt+F5) - softmodem (simulates a modem, which has to be accessed with 57600 Baud; may be changed in file syslinux.cfg, default: ser:57600) - softmodem2 (to connect with softmodem) - TCP/IP-addresses: 192.168.0.1 (PC with softmodem, "server"), 192.168.0.2 "client" (ifconfig at console alt+F2 shows addresses) ppp_de.bz2: (like ppp_en.bz2, but german messages) plip.bz2: Connection of 2 PCs running Linux using a parallel nullmodem cable (=Laplink/Interlink cable) - in syslinux.cfg address and interrupt of the parallel interface have to be given (default: par:irq=7 par:io=0x378) - TCP/IP-addresses: 192.168.1.1 (PC booting with configuration "1"), 192.168.1.2 (PC booting with configuration "2"); (ifconfig at console alt+F2 shows addresses) ne2000.bz2: Connection of the PC running SPB-Linux with ethernet (NE2000 compatible ISA-ethernet-card) - in syslinux.cfg address and interrupt of the network card have to be given (default: net:io=0x300 net:irq=3) - the network address has to be given (syslinux.cfg); default: net:addr=192.168.222.111 net:addr2=192.168.222.222 net:mask=255.255.255.0 (addr: PC booting with configuration "1"; addr2: PC booting with "2") ne2kpci.bz2: Ethernet support using a PCI Ne2000 compatible network interface card (see also ne2000.bz2) pcmcia_n.bz2: (like ne2000.bz2, but using NE2000 compatible pcmcia cards; the settings for address and interrupt are determined automatically; in /etc/pcmcia/config there is a list of supported pcmcia-cards; status- and error-messages at console alt+F5) samba_cl.bz2: Access to shared folders in a Windows 95 (98, NT 4, NT 2000) network (see readme.txt; error messages about missing configuration files may be ignored) nfs_cl.bz2: Access to shared directories in a Linux-NFS network (see readme.txt) readntfs.bz2: Possibility to read NTFS-partitions of Windows NT4 (not NTFS 5 of Windows 2000) (Console alt+F2: e.g. mount -t ntfs /dev/hda2 /mnt to mount the second partition at the first IDE-harddisk; use directory /mnt to access the mounted partition; umount /mnt to unmount the partition) readhpfs.bz2: Possibility to read HPFS-partitions of OS/2 minix_fs.bz2: Access to minix-formatted partitions (Linux) ftp_cmdl.bz2: Classic commandline ftp-program, if the builtin FTP-client of the Midnight- Commander should not be used (see also readme.gz). pilot.bz2: program pilot-xfer for file-exchange with Palm Pilot PDA's disktool.bz2: programs for harddisk maintenance: fdisk, mkdosfs, mke2fs, e2fsck, tune2fs, dumpe2fs, syslinux nettools.bz2: network-programs: traceroute, sniffit mtools.bz2: Linux-replacements for DOS-commands: e.g. copy (dos) -> mcopy (linux) ircomm.bz2: IRComm-protocoll for notebook IR-devices (status- and error-messages at console alt+F5) - it has to be set which serial device is connected with the IR-device (default: ttyS1 = second serial device; change default by #start.cfg irattach:ttyS1 in file syslinux.cfg) - /dev/ircomm0 bzw. /dev/ircomm1 accesses the IR-device (e.g. using a Palm Pilot PDA) zipunzip.bz2: zip-file packer and unpacker by Infozip: zip, unzip cyr.bz2: Access cyrillic texts, use cyrillic filenames usage: - copy the addon-file cyr.bz2 to the floppy - use capslock to switch keyboard to cyrillic - use shift-capslock for caps - default is koi8-encoding - F2 v to view Windows CP1251 texts in Midnight Commander - F2 w to view DOS CP866 texts in Midnight Commander - cyrillic names (created by windows 9x/NT) on harddisks and CDs are correctly displayed - textencoding conversion is possible with the included utility 'convert' (between koi8, windows and DOS using the tables /etc/cv866_koi8 and /etc/cvkoi8_1251) warning: if you save files with cyrillic names with only SHORT names (8.3 format) then it is not possible to open them in a cyrillic Windows 95; if the name is a long name everything should be ok. mc_help.bz2: the full integrated helpsystem of the Midnight Commander (without this addon key F1 gives only minimal help-information) svgatext.bz2: program SVGATextMode to use textscreens with resolutions other than 80x25 characters. Documentation in /doc (view with F3), configuration in /etc/TextConfig (this file has to be adapted; use changebz2 to save the changes). Changing of addons: use openbz2 to open an addon, changebz2 to change it. No warranty: To limit the use of space on the floppy disk, many programs included are limited or older versions - this is only an emergency system. - The functions of this system have been tested, however no warranty can be given that everything is errorfree. - This system may be distributed at no charge: either if the zip-files are left unchanged or if a note of changement is placed in this file and in the file syslinux.cfg The included software is copyrighted by the GNU General Public License. #SPB-Linux version 1.0.1, C.
