SPB-Linux 1.0.1: Accessing win95-files with long names copy to floppy disk (+ format floppy), FTP-access from remote pc (mc: cd ftp://123.4.5.6, ftp://root@123.4.5.6 for uploading (see section tips) using Win95-shares, linux NFS Installation: running Linux: run the script createbootdisk running DOS/Windows: run install.bat Disclaimer: The SPB-Linux "distribution" has to fit on one or two floppy disks. Thus many programs (and libraries) are outdated (small!) versions without documentation (if bugs appear, please do NOT ask the authors of the programs because it is likely that these bugs will not appear with a current (big) Linux distribution). - With questions concerning SPB-Linux please feel free to mail to osth@freesurf.ch (fastchat and fd_size are small applications especially written for SPB-Linux). - To obtain sourcecode and documentation of the programs included in SPB-Linux please refer to any current standard Linux distribution (like RedHat or SuSE). alt+F1: mc, alt+F2: shell, alt+F3/4: softmodem, alt+F5: error messages "shutdown": quit mc with F10, wait until message appears Access (see /bin/login): ppp-connection using serial interface: (like a modem: i.e. using nullmodem cable + create connection as if dialing into by modem) required: accessing modem with 57600 baud (or with ser:nnnn baud -> file syslinux.cfg) default: no password telnet and ftp-access (using ethernet, ppp or plip): (shadowed passwords) default: User root mit Passwort root und (anonymous=ftp für FTP) use script changepw to change passwords (new user: insert in /etc/passwd and in /etc/shadow; Configuration: lines #start.cfg in syslinux.cfg on floppy disk (mount with F2 d) ide:no or ide:readonly limit access to IDE-drives ppp, plip, ethernet, samba, unix nfs: available if corresponding bz2-files loaded ifconfig shows TCP/IP addresses Accessing Win95-shares: smbmount //pc_name/share_name -I 123.456.789.012 -c "mount /mnt" win95 PC: service file-sharing has to e bound to TCP-IP (PPP or ethernet; winipcfg at win95-PC gives IP-address) Attention: before making ppp-connections to the internet file-sharing using ppp has to be disabled! Accessing Linux NFS shares: mount 123.456.789.012:/my_directory Tips: - softmodem (= ser. nullmodem cable): After disconnection it lasts up to 1 min. until new connections are accepted. Entering "login" at the serial port disables ppp and a login-shell is started. softmodem2 at console 3 or 4 (alt+F3,F4) connects to another PC running softmodem (compare F2 n) (it may be required to plug in the cable first and switch on the PC's then). - plip (= par. laplink/interlink/nullmodem-cable): one of the two PC's to be connected must be started with "2" (may be checked with F2 m or with ifconfig: at first PC 192.168.1.1->.2 and at second PC 192.168.1.2->.1) - ftp: uploading with mc works ONLY if the file to be uploaded fits into /tmp (df /tmp shows free space); alternative: login by telnet at PC "2" and start mc there and download the files (using mc at PC "2" by telnet). Or use the commandline ftp program contained in addon ftp_cmdl.bz2. - win95 telnet und mc: the Win95 telnet-client sets variable TERM to ansi, but vt100 works better; enter at the telnet prompt: export TERM=vt100 mc -a function key F10 may be entered as esc+0 (F1=esc+1...) - syslinux.cfg (=start-configuration): all lines beginning with #start.cfg will be copied to /etc/start.cfg (used by rc_modules; the file rc_modules is created by appending all files rc_filename contained in the addon-files filename.bz2) Every bz2-file on the bootdisk will be loaded automatically; and if variable addons:changefloppy=yes is set in syslinux.cfg, you will be prompted to insert a second disk containing bz2-files (however the amount of space on the ramdisk is limited) - creating a new bootdisk: Scripts: install.bat (DOS/Windows); createbootdisk (Linux). Manually: using linux: at mc press F2 and format floppy (1.44 or 1.68 DMF format), copy ldlinux.sys, syslinux.cfg, ramdisk, kernel, init.bz2, utils.bz2 and requested addons (.bz2-files) to the floppy; (using DOS: the bootsector has to be copied using syslinux.com, or for DMF floppies syslinux.com -s) - View (F3) and Edit (F4) is working with gzipped textdocuments. No warranty: To limit the use of space on the floppy disk, many programs included are limited or older versions - this is only an emergency system. - The functions of this system have been tested, however no warranty can be given that everything is errorfree. - This system may be distributed at no charge: either if the zip-files are left unchanged or if a note of changement is placed in this file and in the file syslinux.cfg The included software is copyrighted by the GNU General Public License. #Version 1.0.1, C.
